St John's College

This Michaelmas Term has been one of reflection, achievement, and community spirit. In this edition of College Life, we cover the many events and milestones that took place across the term.

We bid farewell to Mr Stuart West in a memorable exit. Most memorable was the sight of Mr West riding out, sprinkled by his ‘pixie dust,’ along a path lined by teachers and students. Farewell, sir – we thank you for your immense contribution to St John’s. May God go with you. We also celebrated the Class of 2025 as they prepared to leave the College. At the same time, we welcomed new leadership with the introduction of Mr Dale Jackson and announced the School Leadership team for 2026.

Our community continued to excel across academics, culture, and sport. Highlights include Xiaoyuan Li’s victory at Tour de Maths, the Debating team and Water Polo squad ringing the Victory Bell to celebrate their achievements, and the remarkable success of Old Johannian Sazi Bongwe, who was awarded a Rhodes Scholarship. Notably, our St John’s College community raised over R8 million in just 36 hours during Giving Day, a testament to the generosity and commitment of our families, staff, and friends.

This term also reinforced our shared responsibility to stand together on important social issues, including gender-based violence, ensuring that our boys grow as compassionate and principled members of society.

I hope this edition of College Life offers a meaningful reflection on a term filled with achievement, celebration, and community.
